About Team Isaac

Team Isaac We lost Isaac to suicide in 2022. He suffered from alcoholism & untreated depression.
Last year we raised $17,480. Over 4 years, Team Isaac has raised over $53,000. All who have supported Team Isaac please know we are grateful. Many have walked and financially supported Team Isaac every year. With great anticipation, we ask for your continuing participation and support of the Walk for Hope October 11, 2026.
Our efforts continue because Isaac would champion this! As we know, many suffer mental illness or know people who do. Life can produce anxiety that simply overwhelms people. Some don’t seek mental health treatment due to stigmas and costs. There is no cure for mental illness and some people don’t get treatment.
From childhood, Isaac struggled. During elementary school he suffered bullying. We think the bullying shattered his self-esteem and heightened his anxiety. Anxiety and depression fueled by his ambitions for excellence.
In high school Isaac worked hard to earn academic honors. He was enrolled in the IB program, MBSA, and the Enloe Band. He pursued music outside of school and was on the Triangle Rowing team. We now see the signs of isolation, loneliness, and depression that we didn’t understand. We wonder when his mental illness began.
He chose to attend App State. He followed the path of his sister seeking re-connection. He received a BSRN with honors. In Winston-Salem, he accepted a position at Baptist working the trauma unit.
In 2021, he went to Oregon as a travel nurse, later taking a position at Legacy Hospital. Among his effects was a funeral program for a couple passing from Covid. It was a reminder of his service for others. He worked in the Special Needs Ministry at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ and organized blood drives for the American Red Cross.
Isaac put others ahead of himself even as he suffered. Team Isaac champions the spirit of our son. We dream of him and observe reminders of just how special he was as he remains in our hearts.

Why am I fundraising?

Team Isaac

Dear Friends and Family,

Team Isaac is participating in the Walk for Hope again this year on October 11, 2026

Team Isaac was established in 2022 in honor of our son, Isaac Jacobson, who lost his life to suicide on March 11, 2022 at the age of 26. We also walk to remember Drew, Chris, Eric, Lilly, Charlie, Austin, Donna, and Kevin, who we lost to suicide; they and the loved ones they left behind are not forgotten.

We are seeking donors and team members to help us raise funds for mental health research in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Psychiatry.

Our mission is to erase stigmas, raise awareness, and fund research to end mental illness.

We are deeply grateful for your continued support as we champion this effort in Isaac's memory. (The attached picture shows the shadow of Isaac, the tall shadow on the far left, alongside three other members of the Enloe Marching Band Melons).

Sincerely, Steve & Carol Jacobson
